Someone sugessted we introduce ourselfs, so here goes, I am Gillian Langley, 20 years old , married! recently, I live in Leeds in England, and work as a full-time Library Assistant at the Edward Boyle Library, Leeds University. I have been a fan of Madonna's for as long as I can remember, I also am a member of The Rocky Horror Fan Club, and enjoy participating in that, I do Tap Dancing, and enjoy walking in the countryside.pheww, My husband and I own our own house in Leeds and have recently got a kitten, from a rescue centre called Demi, she already had this name so we havn't changed it, before anyone asks if she's named after Demi Moore, as everyone I tell always does. I have some info I have just read in Leeds University's Student Newspaper. it says: "Animal activist Brigitte Bardot has turned down =A33 million from Madonna because she wears fur. The 62 year old sex starlet was offered a part in Maddy's new film but rejected it because Madonna appeared at the Evita premiere in a fur coat." Does anyone know what film this is refering to? Is Madonna making a film that we don't know about? Someone mentioned that US Soap Opera All My Children used You Must Love Me on the show, what they didnt mention was it a was a 4 minute video using a majority of the shows storylines and featured a version of the song Ive never heard with an extended simplistic piano opening!!! Former Gal Pal (?) Ingrid Cassares may have found her niche (again?) as a "celebrity " judge on the Miss USA paegent. With hosts like George Hamilton and Marla Maples could Ingrid's hosting gig be far away? As I mentioned the Julie Brown parody Medusa-Dare to be Truthful will reair this week on Comedy Central. For those wondering , Brown's Madonna fascination which also includes her parody video Neurotica , continues almost weekly on the show Clueless which she is co-star as the butchy gym teacher and as a head writer. I have yet to see an Episode that doesnt mention Madonna. This week's featured Into The Groove as the kids took a modern dance class with Brown to prepare for an MTV Concert. Last week trouble ensued when the girls wanted to see EVITA and the boys didnt want to a chick flick. Its nice to see Madonna get props on such a youth oriented show. Will we ever see Lourdes? Rumor has it , we will have to wait until Madonna's next album, where the picture will be inside the jacket. Sales of "Evita" decline for the first week since early December, coming in at just below 100,000 units. Continued strong box office returns and Oscar nomination exposure should assure "Evita" continued Top 10 success in the coming weeks. The Soundtrack is already Madonna's longest-running Top 10 of the Soundscan era, an impressive feat considering the double-disc's high price. Billboard 200 Albums - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Celine Dion grips the No. 4 spot with a bullet for a second consecutive week. "Falling Into You" earns a ninth Platinum certification this month, placing the set in a four way tie with Madonna's "Like A Virgin," Mariah's "Music Box" and Whitney's debut as the fourth-best selling album by a female solo artist. The Spice Girls, this week's No. 8 airplay single, may also jump over Madonna in the coming weeks (details below). "Argentina" appears for the first time on the Hot Adult Contemporary chart at No. 26. The conservative adult charts may yet take to this second release from "Evita" after giving "You Must Love Me" the cold shoulder. On the Dance charts, Madonna continues her in-evita-ble journey to the top spot. The sizzling Miami Mix could easily snatch the No. 1 spot next week. Hot 100 Singles at a Glance - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- "Un-Break My Heart" persists at No. 1 for an un-beatable 11th week. The single already ranks among the eighth longest-running No. 1 singles of the rock era. "You Learn"/"You Oughta Know," her second and final single from "Jagged Little Pill," prepares to drop off the Hot 100, this week at No. 41, while "Head Over Feet" falls 10-15 on the airplay chart. Prodigy makes another move towards the Top 40 with "Firestarter" which move 59-46 driven by a large increases in sales. Looking Ahead - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- "Don't Cry For Me Argentina" arrives in stores February 11 and will debut on the Hot 100 Singles chart in the March 1 issue of Billboard. Commentator Fred Bronson is already predicting that the Spice Girls and Madonna will fight it out for the top spot. Madonna is assured a Top 10 debut based on airplay and nominal sales alone. Declines by En Vogue and R Kelly may make room for a Top 5 debut if Madonna achieves Top 15 sales. However, the maxi-single only release of the single casts some doubt on its success, especially since many of the singles in the Top 10 are sold as 99 cent discount cassettes rather than $6.49 maxi-singles. Sales of imports, however, should have little impact on Madonna's sales rank. Higher priced imports are available in limited markets only and represent a very small share of the market. Additionally, the U.S. release will feature dub versions previously unavailable. ========================================================================= Commentary by Edward Sadtler (ehs5e@hobbes.itc.virginia.com) Data supplied and edited by Scott Ham (hams@worldlink.com.au) Key to notations: * indicates singles and albums registering large gains in sales and/or airplay according to Billboard; (C) indicates cassette/single available; (D) indicates compact disc/single available; (T) indicates twelve-inch vinyl available; (V) indicates seven-inch vinyl available; (X) indicates compact disc maxi-single available; <> indicates video clip or video compilation available. I was asked but didn't wanted to go to London again (they thought I was from London). Anyways it aired today on MTV Europe and all I can say is that I'm glad never to have participated in it. First we got VJ Crispin with 2 Madonna Blonde Ambition tour look-a-likes.... pretty pathetic. Anyways they had some psycho fans in the studio..... One girl was really obsessed and there was this boy that said he was the male version of Madonna and he has spen 40000 pounds on Madonnamerchandise! There was one other fan that had broken into M's hotel ... followed by him saying he wasn't a stalker. All the fans they interviewed were a bunch of losers. how pathetic...they all quit their job when Madonna was in the country just so they could spend 24/7 near her Hotelroom. The special began with Madonna saying :"It's all about Madonna" I think she would regret saying that if she had seen the special... these weren't fans these were losers psychos...I wouldn't be surprised if one of these one day would kill Madonna for publicityreasons. One guy said that he once asked Madonna to hold his hand and Madonna said "no i don't know you" and he still thought it was the greatest thing. What a loser! Anyways it made me really sad to see people go to a level that they've lost touch with reality. These people need psychiatric treatment. Owh yeah this chick Michelle said that she wasn't a stalker but that true fans would quit their jobs and everything just to be with Madonna when she was in the country. One guy said he'd broken up all of his 5 relationships with girls because he loves Madonna more (how sick). It really makes me sad that these people think Madonna really cares about them (one girl said "owh she knows who I am!"....yeah she knows your a patheric loonatic with no life!). I think Madonna would never ever go out in public again once she's seen this psychofanspecial. And I thought I was sick! Anyways byebye! I was just looking through the Madonna CDs hoping for a surprise and saw it. I didn't buy it though because I bought the LAP CD for a friend for Christmas. The LAP CD that I bought was also different. The picture in the middle of the booklet was black and white instead of color like it is in my copy of the LAP CD. And also the first and last pages are white instead of blue and the writing listing the songs is black instead of color. Did Warner Brothers run of color ink or something? Whoever it was, I thank you at the bottom of my heart (Thought it was probably good ol' Jim Simpson??) Anyway, from now onwards I'll be given leave on weekends so I can still subscribe to the digest only I get to read them in bulk at the end of every week... Regarding the RAIN video, why on earth did they have to cut out a whole fifth of the song at the end -- ya know, the part where she goes all floating, angelic and cherish-esque with "I feel it, it's coming" and joyfully anticipates the watery descent. I mean, that to me is the genuine climax of the song and to do the same for the radio edit is blasphemous. Indeed the song is abyssal (according to Ed Stadtler -- I love your review!) from the start; the ending is nonetheless elysian -- the gruelling masculine momentum pacified only by Madonna's feminine tonal counter-thrusts, evoking a sense of elemental balance and perfect happiness. Wherefore should they destroy the spirit of the song by brutally marring its entirety? I don't suppose the complete Rain track is all that long -- slightly over 5 mins. Look at Celine's IACBTMN -- although the 7.5-min song was edited to fit the video, it's still a whole lot longer than 6 mins, and it's still as soulful as the original version. My thoughts... "Evita" has so far been reviewed by three Australian publications - The Melbourne Herald Sun (newspaper), "Dolly Magazine" (a teen magazine aimed at 12-17 year old girls) and "Star" Magazine (a teen music magazine). The Melbourne Herald Sun was pretty critical - they basically said that the first and last thirds of the movie made you wonder why you'd bother seeing it, while the middle section was praised for "getting it right". Madonna was given a backhanded compliment ("it is the best work of her career. Then again, looking at her back catalogue of film appearances, that isn't saying much"), but she was also described as not being able to handle the film's score (her voice is too "nasal"), except for ASIAH and DCFMA, which she does well. Actually, Madonna was praised for the film, but criticised as well. Overall, the film was described as "not terrible, but two hours of music is a bit much to ask". :-( The other two magazines (the 'teen' magazines, which was supposed to be the hardest market for the film to crack) where overwhelming in their praise for the film and especially Madonna. "Dolly" said that you forget all about the fact that it is 2 hours of singing, simply because Madonna's performance is so brilliant and captivating (!). They also describe it as the best performance of her career, mention the Golden Globe Award and claim that as far as they're concerned, Madonna deserves an Oscar for her performance. The guy who wrote the review was also at the press concert in December and he asked whether Madonna would consider making dance remixes of any of the "Evita" songs, to which she replied "I think I already have - but shhhh, it's a secret!". The magazine named it the "Movie of the Month" and a "must-see, which will have you moved and sobbing with emotion when you leave the cinema". Yes! The other review was equally as glowing. We can't be too upset; we have to look at all the postive that has happened for Madonna this past year. ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 9 Feb 1997 14:52:45 -0500 (EST) From: LatinoM18@aol.com Subject: Madonna: favorite videos response. i don't mean to be an ass, but i think your choice for favorite videos sucked. the ones you named aren't her most creative, or beautiful, or meaningful as some of the other ones she has done......here are my top 5 favorite videos......... 1.
