The silver-something or other retention process used on the Seven disc was wonderful -- and the box set was MUCH nicer all around. I do also believe that Dracula was one of the first to offer multiple versions at the same time -- three, wasn't it? One CLV, one CAV with extras, and one Criterion. The Criterion OZ, however, (which can still be found) has no comparison with the MGM "Ultimate OZ" box set, even though the two are very close in price. I really hope the EVITA disc is more in the vein of the better Criterion releases (i.e. SEVEN) and not like the almost terrible (the Pulp Fiction disc, $125, is a great example of overpriced shit). I don't mind paying for quality (hey, I did shell out $125 for the Rocky Horror set, which included "Superhero"), but I do mind paying $$$ for repackaged goop. Totally mixed emotions... kind of hard to explain. I was caught up in the Eva Peron story.. (had never heard of it before the movie.. need to get out more uh?).. and I was also flippin back and forth between Madonna and myself as well. But watching Madonna perform was so moving for me. I could see her pregnant and still giving the 200% that she always gives. Settling for nothing less than sheer perfection. No so easily done when your feeling the UG of pregnancy. The lyrics of YMLM are amazing. I think of Madonna and trying to be excepted by her peers and then Eva trying to keep the love of her ppl. And myself.. always wanting to love everyone and having the same in return. So powerful, So full of meaning. Before you respond, maybe you'll actually take the time to read the entire message first!!!!!!!!!!! After Zheng's (truthful) post, I felt a need to comment. I know I "love" Madonna, her music, her dancing, and her attitude. I feel that the melodies/lyrics of her music are beautiful. Sometimes, I want to SHOUT TO THE WORLD that I love Madonna! And because I like Madonna, I wanted to meet other fans. Maybe to discuss her works. Maybe to trade things. Maybe to gush over how good she looked in her latest video... and so on... But truthfully, I've been getting incredibly discouraged by what I thought would be fun. I remember when I would look forward to commenting to everybody on this list about a certain Madonna-related topic, because then people could share with their own Madonna-related thoughts, and maybe we could all get to know one another better. I mean, we're from ALL OVER THE WORLD, and it's great to meet fellow fans from other countries. But it's not fun anymore. Period. When people post, other people attack them for saying what they said, or even worse, for even saying it in the first place. Discussion/debate about Madonna is fine, but it is true that when someone posts something, someone else is bound to attack the person for even saying it. My name is Angie Hung. My nickname is Little M. I'm 20 years old, studying Management Information Systems, and I love business, especially the sexy businesswoman Madonna! I used to love posting to the list. But now, some people know me and take my posts "one way". Gee, even the fact that "Little M" posts is a cause for derogatory comments, both private and public. And I know I'm not alone. One side of me desperately wants to leave this list, as it's too painful to get flamed for nearly every single post that I make, but there's also an important side of me that eagerly waits for the next Madonna news tidbit. I know for sure I'm not the only one who feels this way. COME ON PEOPLE, we've taken the fun out of discussing Madonna. I know this may be cliche, but I mean it: Let's try to be friends, let's not attack nor prejudge each other anymore. You've chased away Alex, Anna, Gordon, etc, people who although I may not have agreed with what they said, I enjoyed their posts because they were about Madonna. I know when I joined this list, I was a nice and caring person. I still am, but DEFINITELY with not as much energy, because I've lost faith in all of you. I have met some great friends on this list, but I wish I could meet more. Sincerely, Angie Hung PS. yes, comments are welcome. And sorry for swearing, it was the only way to get you to perhaps read this message in its entirety, instead of rushing through it. -- ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 26 Jun 1997 14:49:13 -0400 (EDT) From: Trueblu4u1@aol.com Subject: Madonna: /\/\ /-\ [ ) ( ) [\[ [\[ /-\ Day on VH1!!! I could see the style as something Madonna would have done, but no one said they ripped n/e thing off of her. ~~Christie P.S This wasn't meant to flame n/e 1. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 26 Jun 1997 16:01:18 -0600 From: will thornburg Subject: Re: Madonna: FUCK THIS LIST Angie, I've been subscribed to this list for almost 4 years now. I remember when you first posted to this list and I agree that the tone of your posts has changed (it has become tougher, and less innocently enthusiastic). I was almost a daily contributer to the discourse of this list, but after a while I grew weary of fighting on-line with people (primarily gordon) and defending myself and many of my fellow madonna-list friends. Finally I realized that I was part of the problem and decided to stop posting all together and have refrained from posting to this day. I preform keyword searches on the mail I receive from this list (i.e., billboard) to stay informed on madonna's life, art and business but I do not consider the list the community that I once did. I ignore much of the mail that comes though. I believe that the people who are most attracted to madonna have very strong personalities with almost a self-righteous attitude to everything under the sun. This does not make for a friendly atmosphere in which one feels comfortable in expressing their ideas or concerns about madonna. Add personal taste on the wide range of works produced by madonna and you're certain to spawn an argument over every topic imaginable. I'm not saying that I think this is good or bad, I'm just saying that is the way it is. I seriously doubt that your plea for a kinder-gentler madonna mailing list will stop the on-line battles that have permeated this list since day one. I believe, as many flamers have defended their caustic remarks, that "it's human nature." Well, at least the nature of the most serious madonna fans, as I suspect that we all have a little madonna-inspired bitch inside us that comes out more often than we like to believe. Such things are made easier by the anonymity of e-mail. Anyway, that's my opinion and also my first post in a loooooong time. Regards, Will - -------- > I'M GETTING SICK OF THIS DAMNED LIST. I no longer consider Madonna to be in any contest that puts her up against the other female singers of the 90's. I beieve she placed herself in a completely different class with the success of Evita. When Mariah, Whitney, Janet or Celine grabs their first Golden Globe, or first Academy "Snub" title, then we can talk. Regardless of what Madonna releases, what position her songs grab on the Billboard or how much her album sells, it will be from MADONNA and noone else can do that except for her. I just don't think she should release a album until she is in the position to back it up with a tour. You know, for instance, that a girl called Moira MacFarland taught her to insert her first tampon, and that she lost her virginity with a boy called Russell Long - facts you may not know about your closest friends. And then you make assumptions that YOU KNOW Madonna's private life. Well,That's NOT true...I think we don't know the real Madonna at all.I think we don't know her persona,we just know the artist and her works.... She revealed much about her history...this is true;but that is also very good! She was just autobiographical,so,what the big deal about it? She digged deep into her memories to create her own works of art,and so? What was she supposed to do?Not give interviews, not answer questions? Was she supposed to run away from the truth like Michael Jackson,in your opinion?Well,M.J.'s running away from the truth is much more revealing that any of the things Madonna has ever told about herself! She was just honest, she was telling her truth. The Greta Garbo option is no longer avaiable nowadays, celebrity has taken a different shape, and Madonna knows this very well. So ,in conclusion:you say:she revealed so much of her life, she talked about her daughter and so she doesn't have the right to protest the intrusion of the medias into her private life.....(Really,I have to be honest:I can't believe it's a Madonna fan saying this....)I think Madonna is first of all a person, and like every person, she needs respect from the all medias.Paparazzi with Telescopiclens intrusion into her house spying her daughter is no respect. I've read hundreds of interviews about her,but still....I don't feel I completly know her.Are you sure you know her?
